Scholarship Gap Calculator
Enter the full cost and each confirmed source of funding. The calculator shows what remains and how long it takes to save that amount at your monthly rate.
Only count funding that is confirmed in writing; scholarship decisions can arrive after visa deadlines, so keep a plan that works without them.
Confirmed funding versus expected funding
A scholarship in application is not funding yet. The gap that matters for planning is the one after confirmed awards, because a visa or enrolment deadline will not wait for a decision that may arrive later or not at all.
Count family support only where the amount and the timing are agreed. A promise to help with part of the cost reduces the gap, but the month the money arrives decides whether it helps with the deposit or only with the second term.
The saving rate is the lever
Once the gap is known, the months figure is the gap divided by the monthly amount that can realistically be set aside. Changing the programme or the city changes the gap; changing the saving rate changes the timeline.
Both levers are legitimate. A cheaper city can close a gap faster than a year of extra saving, while a longer timeline may allow a better programme. The calculator shows the trade-off rather than deciding it.
Frequently asked questions
Are loans counted as funding here?
No. A loan replaces the gap with a repayment obligation, so compare it separately with the loan calculator.
What if the scholarship renews only in the first year?
Enter only the amount you expect across the whole programme, or run the calculation year by year with the later gap.
Should part-time income be counted?
Only if the hours are permitted and the income is reliable. Untick the box to see the gap without it.
